About the area

Witney is a thriving market town, set in the beautiful, undulating Oxfordshire landscape between the Thames Valley and the glorious Cotswolds. The town’s long history as a centre of the wool trade, and famous for its blankets, is evident all around the town.

The area is ideal for outdoor pursuits: it is a good centre for walking, cycling, boating and sailing. The Upper Thames Valley is surprisingly remote, with the Thames Path stretching out towards Lechlade to the west and to Oxford and beyond to the east.

The towns and villages of the Cotswolds, with their welcoming pubs, tea shops and mellow stone churches, are just waiting to be discovered. Babbling chalk streams feed into the Rivers Windrush and Evenlode; in spring, bright sunshine lights up the fresh green foliage in countless bluebell woods.
